Short biography

Born in Rome on February 22nd, 1947. He graduates in Physics in 1970. CNR Fellowship from 1971 to 1974. From 1974 to 1987 he is a researcher at the IFN-CNR, Rome. In 1980he spends six months as a guest researcher at NBS (now NIST) in Boulder Colorado (USA), where, in the following years, he spends other short periods working at developing superconducting devices. In January 1987 he becomes professor of Matter Structure Physics at l'Aquila University. In 1990 he becomes professor with tenure. In 1997 he becomes tenure professor of General Physics. He retired in November 2017.He has especially developed low noise superconducting magnetometers (dc-SQUID) that have been successfully used in magnetotellurics measures, biomagnetism, and as amplifier for gravitational waves detectors. He also uses integrated rf and dc SQUIDs for the study of quantum coherence and for the fabrication of quantum computers based on superconducting qu-bits.In 2009 he started a completely new activity of research in the field of THz at IFN-CNR as senior scientist, working on QCL and superconducting bolometers. Later he designs and fabricates many instrument used as spectrometers in THz field at room temperature.
